What is a PWRgate?

"This setup is so slick and simple... it's a no brainer, I had to test mine 5 or 6 times just because it works so well!", said N0AZZ

The Low Loss PWRgate uses MOSFET power transistors to switch the load between power sources with less than a 20 miliVolt drop, much smaller then similar systems that use Schottky diodes. This keeps the power losses to a minimum and delivers full battery power to the load.

The Low Loss PWRgate transfers up to 25 amperes at up to 16 volts dc continuously. It is a safe way to connect both a 12 volt battery and a 13.8 volt power supply to a load, while electrically isolating both from each other. Whenever your power supply is on, the supply feeds the load while also charging the battery, keeping the battery healthy and ready for use when the power supply is off or loses AC power. Switching is instantaneous.

Need more current capability? Maybe not, can you divide your load into two and use more then one LLPG? See our blog page for more ways to use the LLPG.

What is the Low Loss PWRgate?

What type of battery should I use?
The Low Loss PWRgate has been designed to use Sealed Lead Acid batteries such as AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) or GelCell batteries from 7 Amp Hour to 70 Amp Hour capacity.
Yes, there is a built in Float Charger that will keep your battery fully charged and ready.

News Flash: The LLPG now has 3 output connectors!
By using the latest low loss MOSFETs (< 0.002 ohms R(on)) available, we reduced the parts count and made room for the third output connector, now you get backup switching and power distribution in one!

There are two progams, one for the Lead/Acid and one for LiFePO4. The SBCC has a pot for float adjustment in the middle of board just below the LED.

A lite weight answer for go-kits that need some extra power connections for all those things that need power! Same size as our LLPG and SBCC above.
25 amp max, power distribution / combiner.

The Novexcomm PWRgate

The Novexcomm Power Gate and Solar Charge Controller all-in-one, can transfer 25 amperes at up to 16 volts dc continuously. It is a safe way to connect both a 12 volt battery and a 14.6 volt (for properly charging LFP Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries) power supply to a load, while electrically isolating both from each other. Whenever your power supply is on, the supply feeds the load while also charging the battery, keeping the battery healthy and ready for use when the power supply is off or loses AC power. Switching is instantaneous.

This Power Gate has been designed to use Sealed Lead Acid batteries such as AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) or GelCell batteries from 7 Amp Hour to 70 Amp Hour capacity and LFP Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries. Please specify what kind of battery you plan on using, for these have to be programed for each specific battery. They come normally programmed for LFP Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries.

Please keep in mind when using a power supply with this unit as a battery charger, the voltage must be no lower than 14.4VDC; 14.6VDC is preferred for proper charging. We also offer a Novexcomm RFI filtered 14.6VDC power supply just for this use.

These units come with no housing/encloser, as they are designed as a bolt-onto rack tray with stand-offs.

Yes, there is a built in Float Charger that will keep your battery fully charged and ready.

Overview The LLPP combines the functions of a Low Loss PwrGate with a LiFePO4 battery charger. The LLPP can charge from the Power Supply input and / or Solar Panel input.

Connections External from left to right: Solar Panel input, Power Supply input, Rig 1, Rig 2, Rig 3 outputs Internal: 14v LiFePO4 battery (Lithium Iron Phosphate)

Power Gate The LLPP uses power MOSFETs to switch between Power Supply / Battery inputs (the MOSFETs provide a very low forward voltage drop, only 20mV, much less than diodes) based on the input with the highest voltage, normally this is the power supply input, upon loss of PS input, the load is switched to battery power. Note: there or no fuses associated with these outputs, each load should have its own fuse, 25 amps or less. Total load should be limited to 25 amps or less.

Charger The charger is a Constant Current (CC), Constant Voltage (CV), Off 3 stage charger, that can be sourced from either the power supply input or the solar panel input. Operation is fully automatic; no user intervention is required. The charger operates in CC mode until the battery terminal voltage reaches its maximum charging voltage, then switches to CV mode until charging current drops to its minimum charging value, at that time the charger stops and waits for the battery voltage to drop to a starting charging level to begin the CC/CV/Off charging cycle.

Battery Status LED The battery status is only available when a charging source is being used, solar or power supply, to minimize battery load while in storage. Red: Battery voltage is too high (above 14.6v) the charger will automatically shut off. Green: Battery voltage is ok, charging will happen as needed. Blue: Battery voltage is too low (below 12.4v) charging will begin.

Low Battery Alarm Alarm begins beeping when battery voltage is below 12.4 volts, a push button is provided to acknowledge (silence) the alarm, the alarm will auto enable when battery is fully charged.
